About the Discount Calculator

A discount calculator finds the final price of an item after a percentage discount is applied, and shows exactly how much you're saving.

The discount formula

Final price = Original price × (1 − discount%)

How to use

1

Enter the original price and the discount percentage.

2

View the discount amount and the final discounted price.

3

Adjust either value to compare different discount scenarios.

Worked examples

Example calculation

A $120 jacket with a 25% discount.

Input
Original = $120, discount = 25%
Result
You save $30, final price = $90

Stacked discounts example

The same $120 jacket with a 25% discount, then an additional 10% off at checkout.

Input
$120 × 0.75 × 0.90
Result
Final price = $81

Stacked discounts multiply rather than add, so 25% + 10% off is not the same as a flat 35% off, which would give $78 instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the discount for a stacked or multiple discount?
Multiple discounts are typically applied one after another rather than added together, so a 20% discount followed by a 10% discount is not the same as a flat 30% off.
Does this include sales tax on the discounted price?
No, this calculates the discount only. Sales tax would need to be applied separately to the final discounted price.
